The first thing Web designer must accept is that nothing he uses is made for the purpose of design. The HTML code itself is markup language, not design tool. The creation purpose of all in the beginning was just transmission of documents but connected with each other. There was no multimedia or sophisticated graphics idea about Internet in its CERN's and (D)ARPA's the very beginning.
Since then everything is changed. We, as a team, were avoiding full work in Web design, considering other areas of our work. But, somehow, whenever we were involved in this area of work, we founded that all external associates, we worked with, were not skilled as they promoted themselves. If someone claims that knows all about Internet, and avoids site optimization, also declaring it as a waste of time, beside all warnings from Internet communities or our side, then it is obvious fact that someone is ignorant.
It is possible that we have been meeting wrong people, but there is wild bunch of kids, with single or no page portfolio, that claim themselves as ultimate Web designers, thinking that Photoshop exists for one year only, that there are no things such as meta tags, and more such crap we could hear. We saw "computer graphic designers" trying to find "any" key on keyboard, or asking where are vectors in computer, but we've been ignoring them. Luckily, we met enough their peers with some knowledge even exceeding ours, honouring us to be our associates (even better, they offered us to be their associates). That assured us that ignorance is not generations', but every single person problem.
So, we changed our policy. We are now working in Web design, too. There is much more competent and more educative published on Internet about web design than we can say. Let just say that we know technology, use as much as tasteful graphic solutions, and we do not tolerate incompetent involvement even if it comes from the most precious customers. Neither would be tolerated by doctor, nor lawyer, nor any other professional with personal integrity, in his fields of work. |
