| DESKTOP PUBLISHING-PREPRESS WORK |
|
Advanced graphic design and prepress using multiple software in creation and quality control, guarantees the highest quality of printed publications shorting terms to finalize ones. In case there is no standard that rules some of our work areas, we invent one, and we do that successfully.
Desktop prepress (DTP) is one of MBC Team activities obeying to strictly procedures, multiple
control and advanced design, as well as every activity containing engineering elements, competently
performed in all work stages. During creation of any MBC-DTP product all of team members exactly know
their tasks, accord each other activities in creation of particular final product components.
The only out-of-dilemma is how to do, because we do perfectly, often in “impossible” terms assigned from customers
are always late, thus working atmosphere is similar to the one inside cockpit of S-3 “Viking” landing on
aircraft carrier during thunderstorm.
The best way of quality improving is mistake-prediction enabled by our knowledge. It demands
product quality pre-checking, real or simulated. Errors do not survive none of mentioned phases.
Prepress mistakes are more often caused by ignorance and lacking of wish to learn, than inexperience,
either it is lack of knowledge in DTP softwares, print technology and techniques, functioning of printing presses, materials, or any other reason.
A lot of DTP worker use low-resolution images, Internet dowloaded small ones (simultaneously
breaking copyright), which look awful when printed, or make printing impossible. We know how to design and prepress all needed images by ourselves, and to estimate any other's design usefulness for quality
printing.
We know what color modes and profiles are, possible problems and conversion between modes
limitations, in addition to we know how to avoid problems and push the limits off. Text input and
preparation to be printed both readable and visually likeable, not making headaches to pressmen, is our
privilege merited thanks to our knowledge and expirience.
Black-colouring of conceivable image parts is enigma for a lot of DTP workers causing “pale and
empty” printing proof, but we know how to make black to look pleasant. Wrong choice of dpi and/or lpi
amount may give catastrophic printed results. On the contrary, we know why is necessary keep in mind
WHAT, HOW and WHERE is something printed, so we choose optimal resolution and line frequency in
prepress.
Lots are trying to finish all prepress in Corel Draw unaware of its limitations. We find Draw
very useful additional DTP work tool, but not at all main one. Although some of DTP activities are
attainable in Draw, in other softwares such activities provide much faster and efficiently.
After images and photos scanning, many of so-called DTP workers do nothing to improve such
digitalized material quality because they don't know how, why, or even what is need to be improved.
Although scanner quality plays an important role (in purpose of leaving less to improve in scanned
materials), we don't found that role to be crucial.
Almost every one in bussines we describe here, met the pressmen claimed that “films were bad”.
We know how and what kind of printing marks to put on prepress thus preventing unjustified charges
toward us. Besides, we eagerly accepted advantages of CTP (Computer To Plates) technology, sparing
both customer's and our time and nerves.
According to prepress finalization, there are lot of mistakes we've been seen, so list them would
take too many time and space. Causes mentioned in the third paragraph of this text result in such
mistakes, plus one important fact – “DTP workers” avoid to contact pressmen and consult them about
prepress. It happens either because of arrogance such “workers”, or (more often), they DOESN'T KNOW
WHAT to say to, and WHAT to ask pressman.
All in all, behind us stands nine years of learning, practical expirience, patient and persistent
work, a lot of different accomplished DTP activities – from bussines cards, stickers, forms, leaflets,
posters, through the magazines, books and univesity textbooks – total number of over thousand printed
products, composed of tens of thousands supportive text and image documents created and worked out
by ourselves, or more than twenty DVDs (cca. 100 Gb) if you prefer computer memory range to some
other. |
